Spotlight on: Our Harbor Area Healthy Families Program

This month, we’re celebrating all the ways our Family Stabilization program supports families. We want to highlight our Harbor Area Healthy Families Program, which supports parents ages 23 and younger living in Chelsea, East Boston, Revere, Winthrop, and Charlestown.

We run this Healthy Families program in partnership with The Children’s Trust, a longtime collaborator of our agency. We connect young and teenage parents with home visitors who offer support, coaching, and advice.

Our Harbor Area Healthy Families program runs out of our office space in Charlestown. Our team consists of 8 employees, all of whom are passionate about supporting young parents in their own parenting journeys.

“This program is a great opportunity for first time parents,” says Lisa Tejeda, our Healthy Families Supervisor. “I know from firsthand experience being a mom isn't easy, especially being a teen mom. We can show them how to be a parent, guiding them through community resources.”

Our Healthy Families Program is here not only to help young adult and teenage parents strengthen their parenting skills – we also help our parents pursue their professional and educational goals. We offer guidance on how to earn your degree while managing your family and finances.

“We are here to connect teen and young parents to the community,” says Guadalupe Arana, one of our Home Visitors. “We are the bridge to connect them. We make sure that they not only have support for their families, but also or their educations and themselves.”

Our office in Charlestown is a great space for parents to bring their children ages 0 to 3. Our team speaks English, Spanish, and Portuguese. We help young parents formulate roadmaps to achieve their goals. We can provide support with child development, setting boundaries, how to connect with other young families, and more.
