A safe, healthy, and loving home. It never grows old.

The Bridges Homeward Adoption Program

For over 145 years, we have been working to ensure that children and teens have the opportunity to grow up in a safe, healthy, and loving home. We partner with the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families to make that happen. We support those who face the greatest challenges to adoption including older children and teens, sibling groups, and children with significant medical, developmental, emotional, or behavioral needs. At Bridges Homeward, we do everything we can to find everyone in our care a home where they can thrive.

Bridges Homeward was fantastic to work with throughout our adoption process – knowledgeable, responsive, and incredibly supportive. We would recommend them to anyone considering adoption.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion – think of them as siblings.

Children and teens of color and who identify as LGBTQ+ are overrepresented in the child welfare and foster care systems. Unfortunately, they often wait longer to find adoptive families. At Bridges Homeward, we want our staff and foster and adoptive families to reflect the diversity of the children we serve. It’s important to us that children have access to caregivers and role models who understand their life experiences.

Our Family Services Team works together with you.

We understand that creating a family through adoption requires both sensitivity and commitment. Families adopting children and teens who have experienced trauma and loss require specialized education and support in order to best meet the needs of their children. At the same time, children need support and understanding as they adjust to becoming a member of a new family. Our social workers are highly specialized and have a great understanding of the complexities of trauma-informed care. We train and support adoptive parents from the very beginning of their adoption journey to the very end.

Finding Family Everywhere

Alex was so eager to join the world that he was born nearly 16 weeks early! He spent the first year of his life in the hospital and was placed in foster care after he was discharged. When Alex first met Karen, his future adoptive mom, she was his nurse, providing extra special care for him while he was with his foster family. Alex had many complex medical needs in the first years of his life, but he was also an active, loving, and happy child. In the time she spent caring for him, Karen came to love Alex. When it was time to find an adoptive home for him, Karen and her husband Aldo enthusiastically applied. With our support, Alex became a part of their family. Now, Alex grows healthier and stronger every day! Karen and Aldo are overjoyed to have Alex in their life.
