We’re excited to announce that Karmen Jackson has been promoted to Young Parents Support (YPS) Program Coordinator! Karmen started interning with the YPS program last November, and became a full-time member of the Family Support & Stabilization team in June of this year. In her new role, Karmen will oversee the YPS program, organizing events and trainings for the young parents we serve and developing the resources and care we provide to them. She will also continue providing weekly case management to her YPS clients as well as support YPS and FSS's events, trainings and program outreach.

Karmen was kind enough to talk to us about what she likes about her job and CFCS.

Tell us a bit about yourself!

I am currently in the process of getting my MSW from Boise State University. I’m doing the program online. Prior to working with CFCS, I did case work with individuals working through their mental health and substance abuse. I also have some experience working as a mental health technician on an inpatient unit, and working with individuals who live with autism. It’s always been my passion to support those in need and since joining CFCS I feel like I am where I was always meant to be.

What are you looking forward to in your new position?

I hope as the years go on that we can eventually expand the program. I look forward to continuing to work with the clients, while also finding new ways to help this program grow. Although our services stop for most clients at the age of 23, I hope to develop a way for the parents to still stay involved with YPS as volunteers and role models for the future clients to come.

What do you like most about working at CFCS?

I enjoy the unity and support that comes with working at CFCS. I’ve never been a part of a team that is so supportive and driven. Each one of my co-workers push me to be the best and I hope I do the same for them.

What you like to do in your free time?

In my free time, which is very limited right now since I’m a full-time student and employee, I like to binge watch tv shows on Netflix or just hang out with friends. I also enjoy a good book every now and then. I just finished Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng and I’m having a hard time finding a book to follow up with that one.
