Our Family Support & Stabilization (FSS) team wanted to help the families they work with cool off this August, so they organized a trip to Canobie Lake in New Hampshire for everyone. It turned out to be FSS’s biggest event of the year!

FSS provided tickets, food and transportation for the 26 parents and children who went. The kids ranged in age from 1 to 14 and were very excited to go to Canobie. Some of them had never been to an amusement park before! The parents were almost as excited as their kids; a few of them mentioned that if FSS hadn’t hosted them, they wouldn’t have been able to take their family on a trip like this.

FSS staff served as chaperones for the day, providing support to the families as they navigated the busy park. There were some moments were FSS staff worked with parents on good approaches to de-escalate children when they get overwhelmed or upset. And there were many moments of joy as families went on rides, played games and had fun together. We always appreciate that the events we organize for FSS are opportunities for the different families we serve to get together and catch up with each other.

One of the most impactful moments of the day was when a dad mentioned to an FSS worker, “The farthest north I’ve ever been is Lowell. We’ve never been to New Hampshire.” This simple statement has stayed on everyone’s mind since the trip. It put the work FSS does into perspective: events we host that may seem ordinary or run-of-the-mill are actually big deals to the people we organize them for.

We need your support so FSS can continue to put on these important events for our families. When you donate to CFCS, your money goes directly to our programs. Your donations provide resources, meals and unforgettable experiences to the families we work with. So donate today to make someone's life a little brighter!
